Receiving the Silver ERS Award

Last week, 2iC’s CEO and Head of Operations had the privilege of attending the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Awards in Portsmouth. Both Graham Booth and Nev Smikle represented 2iC and were honoured to receive the Silver Award on the company’s behalf Like many awards, it is easy to focus on the certificate itself. But for 2iC, the significance lies in what it represents.

Our connection to the Armed Forces community extends well beyond the work we do. As a UK SME delivering digital software solutions to defence organisations around the world, our purpose has always been rooted in supporting those who serve. That commitment is reflected not only in the technology we develop, but in the people who make up our business.

Today, more than 60% of our workforce are veterans or active Reservists.

The operational experience, professionalism and perspective they bring are fundamental to how we think, how we solve problems and, ultimately, how we support the end users of our interoperability software. Our team understands first-hand the realities of military operations, and that understanding helps shape the software and capabilities we build. It’s how we advance and develop our technology to meet the ever-growing needs of the defence industry, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. The Employer Recognition Scheme exists to acknowledge organisations that actively support the Armed Forces community through employment practices, flexible policies and an inclusive culture. Receiving the Silver Award recognises the commitments we have made to our Reservists, veterans and their families, while also challenging us to continue building on them.

For us, supporting the Armed Forces community will never be about meeting an award criterion. It’s about recognising the value that service personnel bring long after they leave uniform and ensuring they have every opportunity to continue making a meaningful contribution. The Armed Forces Covenant reminds us that those who serve, or have served, have the knowledge and experience that earns them the right to shape the future of the industry. That is a principle we fully support, and one that aligns closely with the culture we have worked hard to create at 2iC. To learn more about the evening, head to our LinkedIn post here.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in organising the event, and congratulate the many organisations recognised alongside us. It was encouraging to see so many businesses demonstrating their commitment to supporting the wider Armed Forces community. We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition, but even more proud of the people whose experience, dedication and service continue to strengthen our business every day. This award recognises where we are today. More importantly, it reinforces our commitment to continuing that support in the years ahead.” Graham Booth, CEO of 2iC.
